So another question

Post by rbfloat05 »

so i was able to get fix my admin problem and, even reinstall after many attempts many of the mods I used to have.

(l4d2 server btw)

But I am not sure if my server is acting as a public one. My friends can right click me on steam and join my server.

But I have been messing around for quite some time now and no random ppl have been able to join my server as was what I really wanted.

Is there a setting i need to change to allow random people to join my server like a regular game? cause I dont want it to be private.

have I just been unlucky(l4d2 is one of the most played games on steam though)

should I host from a lobby and then connect to server via mm_dedicated_force_server

is hlsw causing random ppl not to join?

just some of my ideas

Sometimes it take awhile before random players join the server. HLSW shouldn't have any effect on players joining or not, its just a rcon tool.

You could try adding popular custom maps to see if that makes players join faster.

Access control in the L4D games is a bit different than prior Valve games. We have a guide here that shows how to set up the different access options for your server: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =49&t=4146

Valve also heavily prefers their own L4D2 servers now, unfortunately for server operators. Most lobby games will likely go to their servers at this point.
