Server bandwidth?

Post by crab »

This might be a hard question to answer but how much bandwidth does a typical 12 person match/scrim server use in a month?

Hmm, I always hate when people start asking questions like that because it typically means they'll be canceling =\

I couldn't tell you since we don't and can't keep separate bandwidth numbers on a per-server basis.

I'm not cancelling, just curious. I saw a couple of things yesterday that caused me to wonder so I thought I'd ask the question.

I would only cancel if I thought there was a better provider for less than I'm paying now. There are others out there that have better bandwidth than what I have now, but I'd have to pay $20 more a month and I'm not about to do that. If I was to pay that much more I'd still stay with nfo but upgrade to an internap server.

Actually we've found that Level3 is outstanding bandwidth. The only people who seem to have problems with it are Shaw customers, but Shaw has problems with just about every provider ;)

In LA, InterNAP uses Level3 as its primary provider.

Aren't Level 3, Internap, UUNet, Williams all Level 1 providers?

I'm close to Seattle, that's why I'd like Internap :D

Williams is one of the worst backbones ;). Similar to Cogent in how fast it is. Both can be technically called Tier 1, but I wouldn't want to use either.

InterNAP uses multiple providers to route traffic. It's connected in Seattle to UUnet, Sprint, AT&T, Genuity, Global Crossing, and others. It tries to choose the best route for your traffic to take, given all the choices it has.

When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament it is "MonsterKill", In Quake3 it is "Excellent", in Counter-Strike it is "Kicked by console"

That's more likely to be on your ISP's end :(
