Windows Domain Controller

Post by Dragondx11 »

When I tried to run "dcpromo" to set-up a Domain Name Controller it errored out saying something along the lines of "Active Directory Domain Services binaries failed to install". (Actual error is the file)
I did Google the error and found when you activate the Remote Registry service it works, I check and it is active.
Thanks.

Did you reboot and try again, and did the same error occur?

Also, is the "Active Directory Domain Services" role installed properly? You might try removing that role and then re-adding it.

The server roles were the issue. Thank You very much for the quick reply.

Alright here is an update. When I tried to install the server roles it still errors out without any real error, all it tells me is that "Installation Failed: A restart is needed to roll back these changes". I restarted the server multiple times.
Sorry for these difficulties, I am rather new to running a server so I am learning on the way.

Ok, I figured out the issue this time. You need the Server services running to be able to use dcpromo.exe.
Sorry for using up your time.

Ah, ok. That makes sense, as the lanmanserver is hooked into quite a few things.
