Windows vs linux question

When it comes to hosting game servers would a linux os have better performance over windows 2003 or would i even notice a diffrence i only deal with orangebox games And what linux os would you recommend also can you view your desktop on linux? i dont rly know alot about linux but im bored and kinda wanta learn to use linux give me something to do if all else fails go back to windows lol since im on a vps

Any recommendations would be nice :)

Orangebox based games run better on Windows since they were built for it, but the difference may be too slight for you to notice.

Linux is also needed for higher FPS values, but if about 250 FPS is all you want, Windows will be fine.

Also couldnt you get 100 tick out of a linux os?

As an OS, Linux may be better for resource usage, but unless you are running out of resources, that won't matter.

As for 100 tick, the game engine determines that, not the OS.
