Re: Chicago?
I am expecting this location to open again late today or early tomorrow.

Re: Chicago?
Awesome, as always, very helpful and responsive John. Chicago is the best location for me as I live in Toledo, 4 hour drive (if that) right down the turnpike, so I get fantastic pings to Chi-Town servers. Anyway, I'll be ordering a VDS here soon so that I can throw up 1 or 2 Nuclear Dawn servers for launch. I will point out that the game was developed with full 32 player servers in mind, but less slots I'm sure are acceptable. I'll probably start out with single core 32 player on it though and let you guys know my experience with it and how it's handled on my VDS when I get it.
Re: Chicago?
Sounds good, please do let us know!
The current availability in Chicago may not last long, as those slots are going quick

Re: Chicago?
Yeah, I know, but I won't be able to order it until after the weekend... need to know how much in my bank account after Sunday before I go and do this... no way to reserve a server for me is there? lol
Also I'll probably be going with Windows, as this is a new game and typically Windows is a little more friendly for source servers on new titles, do you have any monitoring tools that might collect some basic data for me to post up the experience and detailed information with? You guys did say you wanted to do some testing before offering on the per-server rental side
I do know, however, that they do intend to support Linux right off the bat as well. So I may jump between the two for the first week, "just to see".

Re: Chicago?
Windows is usually a good call for GoldSrc/Source servers. I'd recommend watching it in the task manager to see what its average CPU and memory usage seem to be.

Re: Chicago?
Out of curiosity, do you guys still recommend Windows 2k3? or will 2k8 R2 work fine now too?
Re: Chicago?
We use Win2k8 R2 internally now and I have started recommending it instead. It improves upon Win2k3 in terms of disk speed, at minimum. Either one should work well, though.

Re: Chicago?
I went ahead and ordered anyway today, so I'm just getting things set up and prepared. I'm US EST...couldn't sleep...something to fill my time, lol. Always prompt and always helpful, it's always a treat working with/talking with you guys in just about any capacity.
By the way if you're recommending 2k8 R2, shouldn't you change the full machine order form to reflect that now too?

Re: Chicago?
Good point, I will need to do that.
Re: Chicago?
Quick question John
Are the new orders for (managed windows) 2core and up VDS running on win2k8 R2 or will they stay on win2k3?

Re: Chicago?
Fresh installs/reinstalls of managed Windows servers use Windows 2008 R2 now. This changed early in the morning on 8/20/11. Win2k3 was working well for managed servers, but BF3 requires the use of Windows 2008+.
Re: Chicago?
That interesting for BF3 only win2k8
If I wanted to add BF3 when available (managed windows VDS) but I am on win2k3 how would I do that and keep my current game servers?

Re: Chicago?
We are still deciding whether and how this will be possible. Partially, the answer will depend on how BF3 performs and how it will be licensed to us. I will have more information on this before the game is released.AciDPuke wrote:If I wanted to add BF3 when available (managed windows VDS) but I am on win2k3 how would I do that and keep my current game servers?

Re: Chicago?
Alright so here we go, full server 1 core 1gb of RAM, 32 player slots with nuclear dawn here is current usage:
55-64% CPU usage
592-600 MB of RAM usage
0.35% network usage max
So there ya go, 1 "low end" VPS can safely run a 32 player Nuclear Dawn server
