lol...

What would you do with 50 cores?

I would virtualize my personal pc for fun....

See how many virtual pc's I could run on it. This one the way it is, possibly 4-5. With that chip and atleast 16GB ram, 12 virtuals or more! I'm not sure how else you would test it really unless you had 5 monitors and ran 5 highly intensive games at once. I really don't know!

Sounds fun, I wonder what the base clock on it is...

You want to try overclocking it, don't you? Don't make me get the zapper.

O come on you act like I haven't done this before

You acting like I got a new video card and attempted to flash it and ended up breaking it and had to lie to Sapphire to get it replaced....

Intel may or may not have found out about that from 143 blog sites that someone who looks a lot like me may or may not have posted to about you doing that...so I don't think they will go for it.

This chip will be great for highly parallel and/or non-time-sensitive processes like webpages and scientific problems that can be easily chunked. For game servers and game clients, it will unfortunately not be effective =\.

That's kind of a let down. Even if it was good for game servers, I couldn't imagine the price tag, and even trusting a box with that many servers on it. Maintenance event and you could have 100 customers crying.

I wouldn't see an issue if it was done right. For cost reasons, it would be brilliant. Would this be something you would look into in the future, John? As of right now, are you not limited by CPU power and not memory?

Game servers are latency-sensitive and would not run acceptably on such slow cores. This sounds neat for some other applications, but it's not something that we could use here.

So if the core clock was somewhere at 3.5+ would it make it any better?

So great for software that would benefit from that many cores, but not for anything that needs higher core speeds, not core quantity? Unfortunately most things still aren't effective at using many cores. John, how does MW3 looks so far as far as being multithreaded? Does it actually benefit from multiple cores or just 1-2?
