Backups

Post by Drength »

I would like to setup some scripts to keep my Minecraft maps backed up on an external device should my server decide to no longer speak to me. Do you offer any such space, or would I have to setup another server?

Hi,

our systems actually take hourly backups of our hosted MC servers and we have weekly backups done aswell. You can access the hourly backups on the file manager tab of your CP.

I rolled my own MC server on a VDS...so I don't think I have a file manager tab...unless I am missing something.

This would only apply to regular MC servers or managed VDS running Linux. I am assuming this is not your case?

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I am running the latest 5.x image of Centos on the 8 core VDS you guys offer. It is unmanaged and I have 2 domains hosted on a LAMP stack (mostly pertaining to the MC server). I'm mostly trying a way to backup my daily backups should something happen to the server/I screw something up.

In terms of completely separate device, your best bet here would be to set up another VDS at a different location, then use "rsync" after a "save-off" and "save-all" on the game server to keep the files up-to-date. I imagine that this might not be cost effective, though, unless you teamed up with another server and split the cost.

Backing up to your own personal machine might be the least-expensive option in the short term, although this is more difficult to script (unless you run Linux or Mac OS).

OK, Thanks.
I guess it is time to look into setting up an ssh server on my home computer :)

Just get an external drive for your computer and store your server backups there.
