Payment Methods.

Post by McLightning »

I am begging you guys...PLEASE implement either Moneybookers or AlertPay support...Paypal keeps screwing people over, as they have just screwed me over; and I *really* have insecurities with my credit card online. Please. for the love of peet...figure out a way to use one of these. So many out there use Moneybookers now it's ridiculous...and you guys are the very BEST in class.

The next payment sources that we would add would likely be Google and Amazon, as both support recurring payments. I've never heard of Moneybookers.

When using a credit card online, every credit card brand that we accept grants zero fraud liability, so it's a very safe way to go; there's little actual risk. If you're still concerned, though, you could also use a prepaid credit/debit card from a grocery store.

You've...seriously never heard of Moneybookers? I'd be up for Google Checkout as well, if it wasn't for the fact that you redundantly have to use a credit card just to use it.

I've seriously never heard of Moneybookers, that's correct. Their website says that they're not even licensed in all 50 states -- and not licensed where we're incorporated (California) -- so I suspect that many (likely the majority) of our customers are similarly unfamiliar with that brand.

As a side note, their new "Skrill" brand name is a poor choice, in my view. Unless they're also a fishing company, and unless they don't want people to know something about the company from the name.

Well jeez...How does amazon work? Or do you know of ANY way to use google checkout without a credit card? I'm extremely paranoid about my card.

We don't support Amazon or Google right now -- just credit/debit cards and Paypal. I would recommend using a prepaid card if you are truly worried.

With today's security and precautions set in place there is nothing to be worried about, Not to mention the precautions we take with valuable information here. Even if something did get compromised, it would only take a call to the bank to stop it all. I say that lightly even though it would be a pain.

Like John said above, you can also use a prepaid credit card and just refill it on a monthly basis.

In all honesty, ordering online is more safe than most other methods of using your card, as long as it is a known and secure site. The only thing safer is swiping your card directly without giving your information to anyone (such as an ATM or supermarket), and you are far more likely to have something bad happen when using it over the phone (such as ordering pizza).

Banks make it fairly easy to report fraud on a card and get it cancelled and replaced nowadays, actually. I've had to do it with Chase and Discover and it was a 5-minute phone call. The main inconvenience was the wait for the new card.

One neat feature of Discover is that they have an online number generator that you can use for online purchases, so that you don't have to give out your real card information. Other banks may also have this.

I'd be more worried about using an unknown ATM than a card online, because of skimmers. And I agree with TimeX that I am even more worried any time a card leaves my sight, such as at a restaurant, or if I have to give it over the phone. The other day, my buddy ordered Indian food for delivery and he later noticed that they hand-wrote his full card number and information on the back of the receipt -- not very good security there.

Make sure that your client machine runs anti-malware software and that you always keep your OS and applications up-to-date, as that's probably the most common way that card information is stolen online. Logins for Paypal and any other service can be stolen the same way, unfortunately.

Not sure if you guys have this in the US, but in Canada, we have a bank to bank transfer available. You go online to your bank, and arrange a bank transfer to an email recipient, and when he gets the email, he finalizes the transfer. You supply them in a seperate email, the security info to unlock the transfer.

It's not a bad option, but it requires a little time for processing.

If you had this option, you could send John the transfer, and once he confirms the transfer is complete, he applies a credit to your account.

Another option is if your in a clan or your friends are donating to you, you can get them to use the NFO donation mod to donate directly into your nfo purse. They take the risk and leave you out of the mix. Only issue here is if you accumulate too much in your account, and you decide to cancel your service, yo may not get a refund. Most companies don't offer a refund, but hold your funds as a credit toward another service.

Using my CC online for years, not one issue yet. If you are that worried, get a prepaid CC like everyone else has mentioned.

Man, I receive about $250+ in donations via paypal every month for our servers and paypal fees are just highway robbery.
I can't believe the amount of fees I am paying.
Of course I have to have a premier account so people can donate using debit cards and other options.

I am considering other donation methods, but for now Paypal is the most well known tool out there.

Start your own version of paypal and rape all the fees in for yourself. :)
