Help me help my server admin friends please!

So...I am thoroughly enjoying the VDS server for my own purposes of hosting the old game FarCry, also developing some server admin tools...inevitably it puts me and my few server admin freinds at odds with the remaining "punks" of FC multiplayer. Any admin of older games most likely knows what I mean...these few jackwagons that use DOS tools and every exploit they can think of to crash servers etc etc...yaaawwwnn I know...

Here I found NFOservers and guess what the 3 servers I run on this 2 core VDS are mostly immune to these noob-style DOS tools and with my server-side-mod the in-game exploits are mostly blocked as well.

But I have associates over seas who do not have access to NFOservers relying mostly on budget dedicated servers ...

So I ask...why exactly is my server protected from the basic DOS attacks? Is there some built in hardware firewall that catches flood attempts? Is it simply a configuration that evolved over time here?

My guess is the DOS tool being used is most likely developed for CSS but is just able to flood these guys servers enough to really annoy what good server admins there are left in this game.

P.s. I would absolutely reccomend NFOservers to these friends if we had an overseas option.
