Question

Post by RofL »

I don't do much foruming, but my clan would like to try a few different options other than phpbb and I tried installing phpnuke, I followed several tutorials, and I also watched several youtube videos. All of which have failed some how. I edit the config.php to the mysql stats given with the database, I upload the nuke.sql in the files after uploading all the html files to the forums database, and yet when I click on the forums button, nothing pops up at all just a big blank screen, and ideas? I made a ticket but the mod just told me to post on here for help.

I really don't recommend PHP-Nuke, because it's not very well coded and filled with bugs, many of which can be exploited to cause security problems. I would recommend Drupal, Wordpress, or Joomla as good alternatives -- or a modified phpBB install, even.

Well, I want something that I normally see on someone elses site for gaming, that includes a Downloads section, I searched google and yahoo for an hour or so for phpbb and a bunch of stuff that didn't have anything to do with what I said came up. If you could point me in the direction for that I would appreciate it.

What you are looking for is more of a CMS. For a long time I used E107 and it wasn't to bad, however I have been moving away from it due to how slow they are with updates and the occasional bug/security exploit.

It does have a pretty strong download system built in, which is why I am still using it now.
@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

We use IPBoard and it takes a little time to get used to the admin area and setting things up, but ever since someone got me on it, I wouldn't use anything else.

It also has many mods and user created mods.

You can get mods like:

Portal
Downloads
Nexus (Create a store if you like, or use it just for the donations block)
Blog
Gallery
Calendar
Members Map
Classifieds
Shoutbox

Ours had a BF3 theme up till this weekend, but I upgraded our entire site this weekend and haven't got the theme yet. But I have 2 gaming themes installed now and changed the background pics to suite BF3.
