Interested in setting up a DayZ server but have a few questi

Post by lingo »

A buddy and I wanted to run a 40 man DayZ server, what type of hardware should we be looking to rent from NFOServers? Would a three core unmanaged VDS be ok to do this ($59.99 / month)?

Also, I have heard that we can't run Minecraft on a Windows server, is this true? Or is it just that it can't be preinstalled?

Any help would be great, thanks.

You will want to purchase at least a three core unmanaged VDS to host DayZ.
Also, I have heard that we can't run Minecraft on a Windows server, is this true? Or is it just that it can't be preinstalled?
Since you have to go un-managed to host DayZ, you can install MC to your VDS but I would not recommend it. I would recommend going with one of our shared options here as they would provide the best performance all around.

Okay cool, what if it were a 10 player server, could the same DayZ hosting package handle it?

It depends, with MC players are not a huge factor, it is really the plugins you are running and how much your server is accessing the HDD.
