Redirect Doesn't Work for Many Users

Post by Siren Torturers »

We are hosting a Killing Floor server that runs through our webhosting and we are having issues with downloads. About 50% of the time, a few people will end up having to download directly from the server, while everyone else is downloading from the redirect. It is very weird and it has been getting very frustrating. I myself have spent hours poking through the redirect, Googling some kind of solution, and trying everything possible. I don't understand why it won't work and it's really starting to get me annoyed. If someone could help us or explain to us why this is happening it would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

How do you know they are downloading directly from the server itself? Are you determining this based on speed?

If it is happening to only a select few I wouldn't expect the way the redirect is configured to be at fault. Do you notice a pattern such as only certain files trigger it?

:
Everyone has problems with different files so I dont see any patterns. It is very noticeable because when its downloading from the server it takes about 15 minutes for a 6mb file to download. When everyone else is already in game and someone is stuck downloading from the server, it gets really annoying. Its becoming a major problem among the server's community.

Have you checked your websites access log on the "File manager" tab in your control panel to see if the files are actually being requested?

I did not know about that until now. I added a new map to the server then connected and downloaded it myself (which took forever surprise surprise) and it said I requested the file in that log. What is going on? It was only a 2mb file!

Just realized it said 404 in the log although I know for a fact its on the redirect. What's going on?

Do you have your download URL set correctly?

Can you give us the name of the file and a link to your website so we can see?

Downloading a few of those files and they all download fast for me. It looks like you have setup your own redirect though instead of allowing our system to do it for you.

I would recommend you let our system do it for you as it is very easy to mess up redirects.

What do you mean by letting your system do it? There's a different way to set up the redirect?

Do you have a game server with us or just using our website service as fastdl?

Try clicking the "websync" tab in your control panel, waiting 10 minutes and rebooting your server.

Let us know the result.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you I was busy the past few days. I tried the websync, but it doesnt work. The websync doesn't compress plus it doesnt sync all of the custom content we have on our server. It misses quite a bit of the files. It misses the meshes for the maps, the textures, the sound files, and the mutators. Why doesnt the redirect I put together work? Isn't there some kind of reason why it isnt working?

Are you using this URL as your fastDL server?

http://sirentorturers.site.nfoservers.com/server/

The 'redirect' one isn't from our system, ours always has it as 'server'. If not switch it over and try again.
