NFO BF3 server constantly crashing

Post by MAVE2ICK »

Hi,

We have a BF3 NFO server (64-slot) which we have been having issues with for a LONG time now. It will crash nightly, if not multiple times a night. It's hard to fill the server because every time we get a few people in it, the damn thing crashes. I have tried disabling all the plug-ins and nothing has solved the issue. Sometimes when the server crashes it seems like the whole thing reboots and goes to the first map in rotation, other times it kicked everyone out and restarts the map. The issue seems to be NFO related as running the server vanilla isn't solving the issue. Any thoughts?

Regards,

What times does it appear to go down? Have you checked the daily restart schedule?

Chicago apparently experience a DDOS this afternoon not sure if your server is located there,
It also could be someone is targeting you...happened to our servers today. Put in a ticket and ask them to check the packets to see if there is anything malicious going on.

If it goes back to the starting map, you're most likely seeing a crash exploit. There are a couple of those out there and DICE has been trying to understand them for a long time.

If it continues on the same map, then your players might have been dropped due to a different kind of attack or a disconnection from Blaze for one of many other reasons.

In either case, I'd have to take a closer look at the server and traffic to see if there's anything we can do to help.

Hey Guys,

The server is in Chicago, but this is not a "one time thing". It happens fairly regularly. More often then not, the map remains the same which leads me to believe its a blaze crash. Also, it doesn't happen on any particular map. I am in the process of getting our info for the server to open a formal ticket for you guys to take a look. Thanks everyone/Edge. I hope to open this case tonight. Thanks.

Yes, many of the problems that cause Blaze disconnections tend not to be one-time things, unfortunately.

If you are on a dedicated machine, at least we know that another customer isn't being attacked on your machine. Since I haven't seen many location-wide or Blaze-wide problems, that tells us that you may be the target of an attack yourself. In-game behavior could also be a culprit, but an attack is more likely. It does not take much malicious traffic to take out a BF3 server.
