Server R4 Observations

Post by eruffini »

Hello everyone,

With the release of R4 today I have observed some issues:

1. Potential memory leak? Server progressively rubber bands worse and worse until a restart. It would seem that there is a memory leak but I cannot confirm.

2. Hardcore mode friendly tags. I've had a lot of people TK'ing accidentally because the "doritos" do not show up quick enough to designate if the person is friendly or not. This only happens in HC and not Normal as far as I can tell

3. Server has crashed about twice as many times tonight than before. Not sure if this is coincidence or the patch broke something else.

Anyone else seeing anything similar?

Thanks.

We get the rubberbanding randomly, but it seems to happen after going through at least 5 maps or so. Sometimes a map change fixes it. Other times it will crash, usually twice in a row, before being OK again.

I was hopeful this patch would fix the large bugs but it doesnt seem to have changed much at all :(

After teh R4 patch last nite, my 70-player CQ Official server was rocking all nite. I'm not running Storm and Dam maps. Hainan presented some rubberbanding, and the server acted like it's going to crash but it didn't. The server got thru about 2 full map rotations before it finally crashed sometime in the middle of the nite. I'd say it was a good 7 hours of it being full before crashing. I did not have the admin deamon on last nite.

Today, we enabled the NFO admin deamon to deal with the Custom -> Normal mode issue. We'll see how it goes today.

Here's the server in battlelog.

just an FYI - storm has been running GREAT since the R4 update. Not sure if we have been lucky or they patched something. Dam and hainan still have some random rubberbanding, but it isnt on every cycle.

Also still getting player drops on siege when the building comes down :(

I've heard similar complaints about rubberbanding + hitbox detection problems since R4 came out from my players.

Additionally, I seem to be getting server crashes with about the same frequency as we did with R3. Unfortunately, since we're a new server (first time renting), we don't really have a playerbase, so a crash is basically a death sentence for a while until our clan seeds the server population. Kind of depressing.

I've had to restart my server once to get rid of the rubber banding that got progressively worse. Some maps its okay, but next 2 or 3 will see it. It's specifically seen on Dam and Railway the most.

However, the server did NOT crash on its own and it was able to make it through Lockers once before I restarted. Still haven't put Siege back into the rotation though.

We are seeing much of the same except we are crashing almost every hour, rubberbanding did indeed happen on the MP_Damage which is the Dam map and also on MP_Resort which is the hotel map ..the server was rubberbanding for about 10 mins and then full on crashed. I pull three maps out of rotation.
Siege which kicks about half the server when the Skyscraper comes down, MP_Prison which we crash on every time it's up and MP_Damage which has crashed the server many times and has really bad sound issues. We still see bad sound issues on MP_Journey too.

I can't figure out any pattern to this. I take maps out and we just crash on other maps left in the rotation. Sometimes it's the Levolution stuff on the map that causes issues, then other times we get through the Levolution and the map with no issue at all.

Anybody tried running w/ 48 players as opposed to 64?

Yes. This morning I set our 64 to official cqclassic at 48+6 and been running in normal mode. Been full all day and hasnt seemed to crash like it was at 64. You can see from the graph:
